If you search the forms you'll find someone installed the themselves because they didn't trust the dealership. I seem to remember installation instructions as well.

The local Crest dealership did a half-assed job installing my hitch. The molding wasn't aligned, one of the main bolts was dangling to the point it almost fell out. The service adviser got on his hands and knees to fix the molding gaps because the service bay was closed and the mechanics were all gone. I remember feeling bad for the service adviser cause it was 100+ degrees outside and he was scrounging around under the vehicle to fix something his coworker screwed up. It wasn't till I looked under the vehicle after getting home I noticed the bolt was lose so rather than going back I screwed it in myself.

In addition, another dealership said dealer-installed hitches are not covered by Infiniti's warranty, only by the dealer that installed the hitch.

You can get a hitch installed anywhere. Rack n Road is a good option for those of us in California - not sure how many locations they have.

But note, there are differences between the factory hitch kit and all the aftermarket ones I've seen. If you look around this forum, you'll see some pictures showing some of the differences.

Big difference is the fit. An aftermarket one is going to stick down below the level of the bumper. Also, the factory one comes with a nice finisher (that yeller's dealership apparently did a poor job of installing, unfortunately), along with a wiring harness.

Here's a pic from another thread on this subject. This is the factory hitch, and should look almost exactly the same if installed at the dealership:

Here's what another user posted. I think it was normr, but I'm not sure. These pics came from this thread: http://www.infinitijxforum.com/showthread.php/497-Hitch-receiver

Thanks for the input...I think I like the top pic...it has a more nice, clean look than the one sticking out.

Exactly. This is definitely a situation where you get what you pay for. Just make sure you ask the service adviser to give the job to a tech who has already done one or two JX tow installs. Otherwise you may get a hack-job on the cut-out.

I just installed the factory hitch, harness, and finisher this morning. The install took about 3 hrs taking my time to do it right. The factory installation instructions are excellent. I paid $335 for everything including shipping and handling. Infiniti parts is currently offering 20% off accessories until 31 July.

What would you put the level of effort at for a do-it-yourself person?

Just order the hitch and finisher. Total $255 including CA tax and free shipping to local dealer. I will try to install myself. If not, I bet they probably willing to do it for $200, If not, I bring to uhual to do it.

Also, the hitch part says it includes wire harness already? Is that correct?

http://parts.infinitiusa.com is where I bought my parts from. You need to buy the wiring harness also. The tow receiver doesn't come with the wiring. Trailer Tow Harness
999T8-YZ000

As far as the install goes I would rate it at a 5/10. I would recommend getting some nylon pry bars to remove the plastic covers/fasteners to avoid breaking or scratching them up. I used a dremel to make the cut out I would use the multipurpose 561 bit. The hitch is supposed to be torqued to 81 ft/lbs. Other than that it uses pretty basic hand tools.

Like I said before the instructions from Infiniti were excellent.

I'm looking to do this myself too. Are there any difference in the part number 999T5 RZ100(hitch kit) then to break it down and just buy the 51170 3KA0A(hitch) and 11-25 N2101(bolts) separately and save 300.00+ off?

I just ask my dealership how much it would cost to have the towing package install and he quote me $1,050.00...does that seems a reasonable price? Is anyone getting a better deal. The dealership is Sewell Northside Infiniti - Houston, Tx.

Where do you input the discount code during checkout? I didn't see anywhere on the checkout page.

Anyone get this delivered in the 330-340 range as listed above? [$250 for receiver+$75 for trim+$85 for wiring-20% discount] I placed two orders and both dealers failed to complete delivery. Their inventory system still lists the receiver at 475 list and 370-ish dealer cost so when my order says sell at $200 (after the 20% discount) they have a fit. It appears that Infiniti has lowered the price of the tow package but hasn't updated the system. I still see the receiver listed for $250 on the estore. I filed an issue with Infiniti Cares today. We'll see where that leads.

I just ordered it from a dealership in the Dallas area. Shipping was steep ($130), but the hitch was $200, the harness was $68, and the finisher $60 BEFORE the 20% so it offset the higher prices and sales tax I would have had to pay locally, if they would have even honored the online prices.
