I just finihsed a 700 miles trip with 6 people (two kids) and three luggages. I feel it may be benifial to potential buyers to share my impression of the vehicle.
I hve a 4wd JX with Premium and Drivers Assistance. With six people in the JX, we managed to keep the luggages in the back so that each row has only two occupants. The ride is comfortable, even for the third row. The comment I heard most is that it is better in the thrid row than a minivan. Two adults were in the thrid row all the way. With about 60% highway and 40% city driving, I averaged 21.3 mpg for the trip. Not bad with such a load.
1. The Drive. It is very enjoyable, quiet, and relaxing, the DCA really does its job in bumper to bumper traffic so that I don't have to hit the brake all the time. The warning sound is too low and useless when there are loud music and kids. The awd system kicked in briefly with some display on the screen, but it was gone so quickly that I didnot read it. The JX handles the rain nicely. The power is adequate but not great. I give the overall drive 4 stars out of 5.
2. Navigation. The navigation is almost perfect. It is alwasy accurate, reliable, fast, and smart, in the sense that it will recalculate a route quickly if you do not following the recommended route. Unlike other systems that will ask you to make a u-turn repeatedly. The route will continue even after you make a stop and shut down the engin. However, it did miss an highway exit after about two hours straight driving without many turns and guidance. Seems it fell in a sleep mode. Only after I exited the highway, it "woke up" and started to provide guidance. don't know what happens if I did miss the exit and continue on the highway. Also got a severe thunderstorm warning and sure enough, heavey rain fall followed in 20 min. Teh GPS deserves a 4.
3.ICC. ICC is really great in the sense that it will make driving enjoyable and not stressful. Set the spead and let go, the JX will take care of the traffic. I did notice the rpm increased about 500 after the ICC was set. As someone sugested in this forum, I changed to manual mode and set the gear in 6, the RPM dropped back immediately. However, don't forget to down shift when the traffic is getting really slow, otehrwise you can really enjoy the engin rambling. Don't know if this is a program flaw or had any purpose in it. Theoretically it will hurt the mileage. Because of this, it can only get 4 out of 5 stars.
4. Overall. The JX design is unique and very functional. My son got the job to himself to move the second row seats for the third row passengers. It is just that easy. The cameras make parking in a tight spot really easy. And I actually used the space beside the subwoofer for some valuable stuff during the trip. The AC is powerful and effective, it can cool the cabin down quickly, even with 6 people inside. It is a great car but not perfect. Overall rating: 4 out of 5.
