I really like the JX as a family vehicle, but I want something in blue. Is is at all realistic to ask an Infiniti dealer to try and order a JX with "Blue Slate" as the exterior color? (Currently available on the G25/37) I was thinking that if they have the paint for the G, it might not be too outrageous. (Hoping to get a Blue Slate with Java interior, since my kids would destroy the "wheat" in hours...). Thanks. Maybe I'd be looking at an additional change for the inconvenience?

I had inquired about that when I originally purchased the JX, I had seen the Asgard Grey on the FX and really liked that color. I was told that ordering that color for the JX was out of the question even if I was willing to pay for it.

Nissan / Infiniti doesn't manufacture all vehicles at all plants. The JX is made outside of Nashville. Just because a color belongs to a manufacturer doesn't mean they have that paint available at any plant for any vehicle. Some luxury brands (Porsche, Audi, & BMW among others) will paint any color you want for a fee. Most assembly lines simply arent's set up for this. Given the popularity of the JX and the backlog in production, they're not going to disrupt production for a custom paint. As others have said, if you have to have the color, take a JX off the lot and have it professionally repainted.

This is the correct answer. Audi manufactures most of it's cars in the same location and they share a paint plant. So you can get a custom color on a R8 applied to your S4 for $2,500. This is not cheap but surprisingly a very popular option. Great way to really customize your car. They also go beyond the paint customization into color for leather and a whole variety of other items. It's a sweet program. But Infiniti cannot do this with the JX because it's somewhat isolated from the rest of what Nissan does globally from a manufacturing perspective.
