Since this has been brought up in several separate threads, let's post it all in one place for easy reference. Is it real or fake wood?

Ward's 10 Best Interiors 2013:
"The Infiniti JX carries over and improves on the excellent interior design language we saw in the M sedan a few years ago and in the QX SUV last year. The WardsAuto editors find the JX to be an ideal blend of premium wood, sumptuous leather and judiciously applied brushed aluminum trim. The entire interior feels meticulously crafted," Ward's editorial staff wrote in announcing the selection of the Infiniti JX.

Edmunds:
Cabin room is generous, and there's 76.5 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded. That interior volume is wrapped in a rich combination of leather, wood and metal accents

Car and Driver:
Infiniti’s high-volume philosophy carries over to the included equipment. Standard features on a $41,400 front-drive model include leather seating, a power liftgate, a moonroof, keyless entry and start, automatic bixenon headlights, and 18-inch wheels. Adding the $4950 Premium package brings navigation, maple wood trim, the Around View Monitor, and Infiniti Connection telematics; the latter provides Google Calendar integration, remote unlock, zone and speed alerts (perfect for when you let the kids take the car), collision notification, and more.

Autoweek:
Our tester was a loaded Deluxe Touring model with real wood trim, beautiful brushed-nickel accents and chocolate-leather seats with piping and exposed stitching.

and from the horse's mouth, Infiniti provided the following:
After contacting our model line manager for the Infiniti JX I can confirm that the JX uses a real maple grain inlay. This is consistent with other Infiniti models as all wood finishes use real wood grain.

We hope this information answers your question, but if you need any additional information or have further questions please contact your local Infiniti retailer or let us know by calling 1-800-662-6200 to speak with a live Infiniti Specialist. Our business hours are Monday through Friday 09:00AM to 08:00PM EST and Saturday 10:00AM to 04:00PM EST.

So the question remains: can anyone who keeps posting that it's fake/vinyl/plastic provide any evidence of their claim?

Go to a dealership where there are two maple cars sitting side by side. Should be easy to do nowadays that the initial frenzy is over and inventories are growing. Look close at a particular area, noting the grain and knots. Then jump in the other one, and look at the same area. They will be the same. Unless they are doing genetic cloning to get exact copy trees, and then carefully cutting them to get the same pattern. Now look at how the vinyl wraps around curves. Ever seen wood do that? You should see grain pores, not grain curves.

The mags get press releases and parrot back a lot of what they read. Is the Infiniti 800 number mentioned the same one that didn't know what the Buzz-Lightyear rhinestones around headlight projector lamp are? Or what the wheel hub bore and wheel offset is? Or what's under the plastic cap roof rail? I admit the roof rail question was a trickier one.

I drive an Audi - the JX is on the way for my wife. I have some spare console parts that I acquired for nothing in case mine ever got damaged. They are undoubtedly real wood, but very thin veneers bonded to metal. Veneers can be made to wrap around curves and the like, so it is nothing that you don't see the edge of the grain in curving pieces. That's just how inlays work. Everything I have seen says real wood and it appears to me to be real wood.

If the illusion is real, that's great, mission accomplished. You can wrap paper around a corner. But have you ever personally wrapped a gift? At the corners, the paper doesn't stretch. To make it look nice, it has to be folded and over lapped. Once you do that, the pattern doesn't match. Vinyl stretches...

I can't believe the thread is so long.

Real or fake? Who cares, it looks good. That's it.
I agree, it does look good and that's all that matters, we have the wood trim in our Lexus also and the question of "is it real or fake" has never crossed my mind.
