Infiniti is introducing its all new 2013 Infiniti JX 7-passenger luxury crossover this spring.

Known for their high performing FX series of 5-passenger crossovers and the luxury of the QX 56 luxury SUV that seats seven, they have now added the JX series luxury crossover to fill the gap between the two.

The Infiniti JX will compete with the Acura MDX and Audi Q7 in the luxury crossover category. Priced at $40,450 for the base JX35 FWD, the JX is competitive to similar models of the Acura MDX (starting at $42,930) and the Audi Q7 ($46,250).

The Infiniti JX was first shown late last fall and is currently a show feature at the Infiniti exhibits in the spring 2012 auto shows. The JX will be available later this spring and the Infiniti website is now allowing you to “build your own” and reserve one.

JX comes in two trim versions JX35 FWD and JX35 AWD which starts at $41,550. The power train for both is the 3.5 liter DOHC V6 with 265 horsepower @ 6400 rpm with 248 lb-ft of torque @ 4400 rpm. The engine is mated up to a sport tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide high responsiveness, smooth and efficient shifting plus fuel efficiency. The expected fuel economy is 17 mpg City and 23 mpg Highway.

A new feature of the Infiniti JX is the Infiniti Drive Mode Selector, exclusive to Infiniti vehicles. A rotary switch in the center console allows the driver to choose between four drive modes – Standard, Sport, Eco and Snow. This allows those who have relished the performance of their sports sedans to be able to still enjoy that performance as they move up to a vehicle suitable for a growing family.

Infiniti keeps its JX pricing simple by offering five Options Packages for both the FWD and AWD. They are Premium ($4950), Theater ($1700), Driver Assistance ($2200), Deluxe Touring ($2550) and Technology ($3100). Stand alone options are Roof Rails for $370 (only with the Premium Package) and Polished 20 inch Forged Wheels which have a distinctive appearance.

We have not had the opportunity to drive a JX as yet, but if is performs like the FX and the QX, it will more than meet the expectations of the luxury crossover consumer. Some had thought that the new 7 passenger crossover should have a V8 option to provide more power and performance. Infiniti feels confident that the target consumer will be more than satisfied with the integration of the 3.5 liter V6 and CVT. When we do a ride and drive review, we will let you know.

Inspecting one at an auto show, we are impressed with the interior spaces in particular with respect to amenities and space plus ease of entry to second and third rows. According to Infiniti, this may finally be a 7-passenger vehicle where third row seating is more finally suitable for adults as well children. Utilization of a flat platform floor not only enhances 3rd row roominess and provides a long 2nd row total adjustment of 5.5-inches fore and aft for versatile roominess and cargo carrying capacity, it also allows use of a more dramatic styling approach.

Comprehensive technology and integration for easy use is a key feature in the new Infiniti JX. The technology is already being recognized as Parenting Magazine has named the Infiniti JX as one of the year’s “Smartest Family Cars” in its February 2012 issue now on newsstands. “By recognizing today’s smartest cars, Parenting hopes to make it easy for families to use technology on the road”, said Ana Connery, Editorial Director for the Parenting Group.” Our editors’ top picks have thought of everything so that parents don’t have to.”

Put the Infiniti JX on your list to look at in the Chicago Auto Show or the spring auto show in your area. Also, take look at the Infiniti JX website for a more detail on the many features and capabilities of this new 7-passenger luxury crossover.
So the official JX portion of the Infiniti US website is up. You can build your own JX there with suggested pricing.
