I think I have finally been able to successfully pair my Android phone to the handset phonebook on the JX

In the future, as I add more contacts to my phone or change information for a pre-existing contact, will this automatically update on the car also? Or do I routinely have to go in and do a repeat upload?

Yes. It syncs each time you get in the car. You don't notice it happening. It takes a few minutes and happens in the background. Your contacts don't stay in the car. It gets cleared each time you turn the car off.

I thought it was if you have "copied" your phone's contact list over to the car's contact list for some reason, I don't believe those will sync as they're loaded on the car.

If you are driving over 5mph, I don't believe you can get to the phone's contact list, but you can get to the car's contact list.
