We are ordering our JX and decided to get the roof rails. Should we get the cross bars now or can those be added later, by the dealer or elsewhere? It looks like they aren't adjustable, so couldn't that be a problem? I'm not sure if another brand of cross bars could be attached later since there is no space under the roof rail to attach.

Yep, the rossbars can be ordered in the future and are not adjustable. You will also be able to purchase aftermarket crossbars (rackattack.com).

I decided to order all at once (part of negioation) and I like the sleek look over the square aftermarket style.

OEM I like the slick round silver look of it instead of aftermarket square onew. actually took longer to install because you have to carefully pop off the 4 plastic bolt covers, trying to not scratch the paint. Also adjusting the 2 screws on each end of the bars to fit correctly.

I'm sure mine will be scratched up from the overzealous installer.

I am considering installing it myself, any special tools required for this install ? My DIY skill level is very basic: I have replaced spark plugs, wiper blades! and once did a splash guards install, can I pull this one off ?

I have a Thule Atlantis 1600 and it fits just fine on the OEM cross rails. I'll take some pics next time I mount it.

I also plan to check the angle at which the box sits, because I think it was at a very slight angle due to the slope of the roofline. But nothing too drastic where the box would be catching air...
