Complaints / annoyances now that honeymoon phase is over?

We will pass the 4 months of ownership mark this week and I've posted several things that I really like about the JX. As often happens when the honeymoon stage passes, I'm starting to notice a few annoyances and thought it might be useful if we posted them up in one area for future buyers.

1) Drivetrain performance. I defended this at first, but am starting to change my mind. The ECO setting is nearly dangerous while pulling out in traffic. Even in Sport mode, for a vehicle that has +/- 10% of the weight/HP/torque of my Audi, it's extremely slow without having significantly better gas mileage.

2) Every trip, I'm more irritated there's no blu-ray player in the theater package.

3) Found out this week that you have to manually select one streaming bluetooth audio device and can't change it unless the vehicle is stopped. Who came up with this? Even if my phone is paired and my wife's phone isn't in the JX, if I don't remember to switch the streaming audio setting, I can't listen to my music wirelessly.

4) I was probably caught up in the moment of purchase, but I'm finding a lot of the things I enjoy about the JX become monthly recurring costs. XM radio. Weather updates. Sports updates. Eventually even the Infiniti Connect. I have all of those available on my smartphone, but it adds up quickly if you want the factory look/feel of those systems long term.

5) My JX has trained me to use the voice commands to navigate while driving, but there really should be something that allows full functionality of the menus if the JX detects a passenger in the vehicle.

Have you guys found any others?

The only thing that annoys me is the lack of pick up. It's really lacking.

I agree, the pick up has really started to bother me, I don't ever use ECO mode, the vehicle is set to SPORT mode at all times. That is really my only annoyance with the vehicle.
It's no secret...My annoyance/complaint.. is that you can't tune the radio up & down from the steering wheel control. I like to scroll through individual channels, especially on long trips, and have been able to do this with previous vehicles. In the JX you have to use the tuner knob on the passenger side of the console. The steering wheel control only jumps through presets and categories(XM/satellite radio).
I pretty much hate the things I hated when I first got the car.

1. The fact that I can't use the navigation and other functionality when driving. Even most of the stuff like changing bluetooth phone like you mentioned is not available through voice either. Luckily the iPod functionality has not been designed for idiots. They must have missed graying out choose artists, etc :)

2. The location of the SOS button next to the light switches which are not lit up.

3. I still wish the steering wheel pivoted off a location further down towards the floor and had more adjustment than there is now.

4. I wish there was a Lexus Enform or BMW apps like interface considering that it is a new car.

5. Better thigh support for the driver seats.

6. Wish the 2nd row seats would somehow magically return to the for-aft position after use for 3rd row.

7. Wish there was a way to reduce the sound of the lift gate beeps.

8. Wish there was a way to have the camera on for forward driving (atleast when trying to squeeze through a tight spot at a speed above 5mph - They have idiot proofed this vehicle too much)

9. The design from some angles are ugly.

10. The number of wires I see under seats, mats, dash, etc. Still bothers me :)

11. I hate the converter, tubes that hang too far below the belly. Especially when I am following behind a JX on another car or walking up to the JX in a very vacant parking lot.

12. Wish the black paint was metallic.

13. The location of the lift gate button on the dashboard is not in the best location.

I like the car though. And my wife loves it. Which is what matters. I wouldn't trade it for something else right now.

1) Needs a single voice command for pass through to use the voice commands of your phone (Siri, etc,)

2) Both front seat bases do not tilt rearward enough.

3) The connected phone confusion is a total pain.

I've also have been somewhat disenchanted with acceleration but have found the best way to overcome this when merging on short ramps is to throw it in manual, downshift two to three times, then there is no argument.
Would like fob feedback for the remote start button, so I can tell if if worked or if I was too far away.
@ Jeverall..... If you hold the same button up or down on the steering wheel, it will scan through all channels.

One issue I discovered as the weather gets cold here in WI is that the heat sux on this car. When you have it coming through the main vents on the dash, the velocity falls off significantly as the temp rises ( I have to put it at 90 to get it warm). Additionally, the heated seats do not get nearly as warm as my previous Lexus.

No, it doesn't work like that .. with satellite radio. Let's say I am listening to station 3, and then I want to tune up to channel 4, the only way to do this is by the tuner knob. Or by programming them as presets, and you are limited to 6.
hopefully they will have a workaround for the navigation and control lock when driving.

This is like a venting thread. I think the lack of power is something that lingers behind everyones minds. It definitely could use more power.

I found the seat warmers to be considerably better than my Lexus, even with it turned one notch I can definitely feel the heat.
Can't change the memory settings from driver 1 to 2 unless you are in park.

Lexus seat warmers aren't that great at all. At least in the Lexus models I've been in. You have to sit in the seat for a while before you feel any heat lol.
I have had the JX for 3 weeks now and have put only around 500 miles on it. So I am technically still on my honeymoon period :) But yeah I still do have a list of annoyances even though all in all I still think I like the car.

1. Fog light must be turned on with Headlight. When my fog light is turned on, the headlight is also forcibly turned on. I wish there is a way to make "auto headlight" really works with the fog light in "on" position. I love the auto headlight function, but I want my fog light to be OFF when my headlight is not needed in the daytime.

2. I think whoever designed the nanny features in the technologies needs to be shot in the brain. I really hate not being able to input my destination on the GPS, dial the screen for phonecall, and many other features when the vehicle is moving. Sure, one can argue it is a safety feature. I agree that it is handy, but it really pisses me off when I was in the middle of dialing a number, or inputting destination during a stop light and had to stop when the light turn green.

3. I wish the outside rearview mirror would auto fold when my gear is in park position

4. Yes, the beeping sound on lift gate is too loud/ too long. I wish there was a way to reduce it as well. I hate it when the beeping sound had to wake up my sleeping little ones.

5. iphone phonebook sync is not working for me! grrrr... according to some threads here, iphone is not supported. What kind of technology does not support an iphone phone book sync??? [Edit: I was still unable to get iphone to sync, but I am able to use the voicecommand to access my phonebook. You just need to make sure to pronounce lastname, firstname]

6. The USB video playback is EXTREMELY PAINFUL. God I probably spent easily a week trying to figure it out and I gave up. I read all the thread, I tried different USB sticks, I tried different FAT formats, I tried ripping my movies using different divx or asf formats. When I got the video to work from USB stick, it is unreliable and errors out for no reason. When it does work, sometime it took super long to read from the USB stick and times out. (Note: mp3 music plays just fine though) [Edit: I am now able to figure out what format to use! The simplest thing is to use DIVX PLUS CONVERTER http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus and use .divx format. It works reliably and beautifully]

7. Voice command for accessing phonebook contact on iphone or vehicle phonebook sucks. Maybe all my friends have funny names, or I am not pronouncing them correctly. But after trying to place a call using this method and doing so unsuccessfully by getting different names from what I wanted, I feel that it is very frustrating, annoying and even more dangerous compared to me just dialing the number directly from the screen. Oh wait! I can't freakin do that when the car is moving.... So, I say just screw the voice recognition on address book and dial directly on my iphone. I feel its a lot faster and safer.
[EDIT: Voicecommand works fine for phonebook access on my iphone. you just need to pronounce lastname, firstname].

8. I like how the JX looks from the front, but I agree it looks hideous from the side.

9. The person who designs the USB location should also be shot. Try plugging in USB cable when the vehicle is moving, its almost impossible. Heck try to do it when the vehicle is stationary, its is also very hard because you can't see the friggin plug. They should make it somewhat angled, so its easy to see the plug [EDIT: bought 3feet USB extension cable from newegg for $5 and fix this particular pain]

10. I really miss the "touch signal" on my mercedes and I wish they have it here in the JX. It is the feature where you just tab the signal lever and it signals three times and automatically shuts off.

11. I also wish there is a running board on the JX. A lot of people say the JX is low enough... Yes maybe if you are 6 foot tall. But for my wife and my 4 year old, not having the running board means they have to literally climb up the vehicle to get in.

12. Is anyone with me when I say the exhaust tip is ridiculously ugly on JX??

13. Yeah I also wish there is a way to turn the camera ON when the vehicle is moving. We are notorious for banging the wheel againts curbs, and it would be nice if we can see the curbs from the camera when we are making that turn.

14. I also feel that the car sway a little too much, but maybe its also because I am not used to driving large SUV/CUV (JX is our first big car)

15. Anyone with me when I say the moonroof inside cover feels light and cheap? reminds me of 'ol '94 honda civic. Doesn't feel like a luxury car at all.

As for the vehicle power, I am actually quite happy with it. It is a family car for us and we don't expect to use it for racing. The power is adequate and the pull is there (on STD and Sports Mode). I am more concerned that I still can't break the 18.3 miles per gallon fuel efficiencies so far, especially when 70%+ of my driving is highway driving.

I also want to make the record straight. Although I have 15 rants (so far) on the JX, I can also easily come up with 4x good things about the car. I am not sure that I would get any other car, especially at this price point.

If someone know how to fix my annoyances, please do let me know! :)

^ that is a long list. The USB playback has been driving me nuts forever. They really need to make it more user friendly.
Absolutely that there are too many quirks, rattles, quality issues for a car of this price point after 4 months of ownership.

-our lift gate is screechy
- there's a rattle from our front/center speaker
-airbag lights
- we've had a lot of hardware replaced due to quality issues.
- xm has its own button but disc/aux share?!
I really don't think power is in issue on the engine. Yes, the off the line acceleration is not that fast, but if you put it in sport mode that helps a lot. But seriously, take your JX out on a county highway, go pass a few folks going 60mph, this this has amazing passing power with no lag what so ever! It is very impressive from that standpoint. Yeah, I am sure we all wish this this was pushing 400hp, but it is a family hauler, and we also want good MPG otherwise we would have not purchased a JX. I am getting 22mpg with mixed driving (weighted more towards Highway though), my typical speed on the highway is usually just under 75mph. So I am impressed with the performance, there is no doubt that the JX would be slower if it had a traditional automatic, and the MPG would be even less. After our guys weekend trip this weekend with 4 grown men with luggage and 4 sets of golf clubs, I really could not be happier with the passing power of the JX, again, I also own a G37xS.
Also, if you want to have FULL INPUT AND OPERATION OF THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, it can EASILY be done! (I notice that this is a complaint of many of you) It would cost you less than $10! Also your passenger in the front seat will also be able to enjoy movies on the Navigation screen while the vehicle is being driven. All the details are here:

eosckar, if you can't download your iPhone phonebook to the car, you're doing something wrong. My suggestion would be to ask the salesperson who sold you the car to help you set it up properly, but if they don't/can't help, just read the manual. Or call your Infiniti Personal Assistant on Infiniti Connection and ask them to help you. Normally the iPhone phonebook auto-downloads to the car, but you can also manually sync it.

As for voice recognition, I find normally I have to say "Call, lastname, firstname". It would seem to make more sense to say "Call, firstname, lastname", but for some reason the car does it backwards. As long as I say it that way, it works really well.
Sinecure

thanks I will give it a shot with the reverse name!!
