Just received my cargo area protector for the JX 35. It comes with a set of hinges which, according to the installation manual located at http://www.infiniti-techinfo.com/asistgc_1/diskdocs/1/T/P/1TP23.PDF, is supposed to be used to replace the existing set of hinges attached to the cargo bin lid. However, the hinges look identical to the ones currently attached to the cargo bin lid.

Does anyone know why the installation manual requires the hinges to be changed? Is there any difference in the function of the hinges?

We saw this come up on a thread months ago and if I recall, there really isn't a reason to change them.

The replacement hinges have a bit more friction so they'll hold the door up better with the added weight of the cargo protector. But the stock ones seem to work fine. I'd keep the spare hinges someplace safe (like taped to the inside of the plastic cover for the jack/tools) in case the stock hinges eventually stop working properly. Replace them then.
