Anyone with a JX notice if it would be possible to add the roof rails to a base JX. Supposedly they are factory installed and only available if you also order the premium package. That seems kind of ridiculous since nothing in the premium package would effect the installation of the roof rails. I'm going to try to find out if my dealer could get them and install them on a base model. I need roof racks but have no need for GPS or enough of the other goodies to justify the premium price.

On the website it says "premium package required" next to the roof rails in the options list. It looks like you pretty much have to get e premium package before you can add anything else except a hitch, splash guards or lighted door sills.

Yup: got the same answer from my dealer. No way the base JX can come with the ability to have roof rails attached unless it's built with the premium package. Agree it doesn't seem there's any logical or engineering reason for that - seems that's just the way Infiniti wants to build them.

I think that you will be able to order them from a parts or aftermarket Infiniti catalog. Doesn't make sense for JX's with roof rails that get damaged (tree limb falls on it) not to be able to replace (in your case, add) roof rails.

FYI, when I was looking at JX's at the dealership, I found a JX that had one side of the roof rails not properly secured down- I was able to wiggle it around when attempting to manually see how strong they were. I pointed this out to the salesman and he said it was probably missing some mounting bolts, so it should be possible to add.

It looks like base JX's have a plastic rain gutter cover which can be removed and replaced with the plastic(?) silver roof rails. (they definitely aren't made of metal)

You should be able to add rails regardless of JX type...basic bolt on accessories. The instructions are on this forum...doesn't say any restrictions.
